Each December, since 1993, the CLF has sponsored Holiday Parties for over 15,000 homeless children. Over 500 children attend events, receive brand-new gifts and toys, and enjoy the benefits of this highly enriching component each holiday season.
Friends, companies and our very own Santa present each child with his or her very own personalized gift bag filled with 7 or 10 new gifts of the latest new toys and gifts. Delectable food, a DJ, festive crafts, games, and a incredible feeling of community and family spirit complete the day. Wonderful local groups & national corporate friends such as Capital One, Rothschild & Co., Topson-Downs, California Supply, Disney, and KAYO of California have sponsored these truly heart-warming & terrific events...
Project Angel Wings Program Activities:
• The CLF hosts incredible events for up to 300 LAUSD students experiencing actual homelessness and poverty, coming from LA county elementary schools such as Telfair and Pacoima Elementary schools.
• Members of the community, and volunteers through different companies who help sponsor these great events, actively volunteer-helping to serve food, facilitate the holiday crafts with the children, supervise the dance contests and games we have set-up, face-painting, set-up and break-down after our events. Many companies have used this experience in place of their corporate holiday event-making it something their employees now look forward to, year after year. Companies such as Capital One, Rothschild & Co., Topson-Downs, California Supply, Disney, and KAYO of California have been generous sponsors of these truly wonderful, fun and enriching parties.
• CLF also involves the local community and businesses in hosting their own Toy Drives for us: The Malibu school district, Yahoo Sports, HULU, TRUECar, Agape Spiritual Center, Truxton’s Restaurant, and Bright Beginnings Preschool are but a few companies who have participated in this wondreful, active way.
• Our staff collects over 2,500 brand new toys and gifts, as well as thousands of in-kind donations of high-end toiletries and perishable food and drink items.
• In addition to our wonderful holiday events, our staff distributes these toys, gifts and in-kind donations to homeless shelters and agencies serving at-risk and homeless families (such as Homeboy Industries and Para Los Ninos) and also on Christmas Day, giving out the extra toys and gifts we have collected all season long to the homeless and very low-income youth that wait on line for hours at Midnight Mission with their families.
• Each family in our Vita Network is given a significant financial stipend, so they may celebrate the holiday, pay off some extra bills and purchase a tree for the family.
• Teens in our Vita Network are given gift cards, so they may purchase their own gifts or clothing for themselves.
